The  Keystone College Department of Performance Music will conduct its early spring concert, “Building Bridges” on Sunday, March 2 from 7-8 p.m. in the Theatre in Brooks.

This event, which is free with no registration required, is designed to not only be a musical gift to the public, but an educational opportunity for the students of Abington Heights Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Mr. Mike Lesnesky.  Keystone’s Director of Bands and Performance Music, Mr. Jeff Tylutki, states, “It has always been important for us as a program to ensure that we are not only presenting concerts which we know the public will love, but offering a chance for those outside of our organization to receive quality music education opportunities.  The concert and clinic really has nothing to do with college operations and such, but rather is just a celebration of the bonds between any musicians in the region who wish to learn and grow together within our art form; hence, the title ‘Building Bridges’.”

In regards to the clinic, both the Abington Heights Students and the Keystone musicians will benefit from a clinic given earlier in the day by Ms. Kate Anderson.  Originally from Huntersville, Pennsylvania, saxophonist Kate Anderson has performed throughout the United States, Latin America and Europe.   She has performed with jazz luminaries Randy Brecker, Phil Woods, Slide Hampton, Marquis Hill, in addition to singer-songwriter Morgan Myles, R&B and gospel vocalist Barbara Walker, 18 Grammy award-winning polka king Jimmy Sturr, world-famous actress and vocalist Linda Purl, legendary producer of The Band, John Simon, and most recently with Motown icons, The Temptations and The Four Tops. Currently, she is teaching applied saxophone at Mansfield University and is the Director of Bands at the Wyoming Seminary Lower School.

The concert will showcase the AHHS Jazz Ensemble performing 3 charts, as well as the KC Symphonic Band, Vocal Ensembles, and Jazz Ensemble. This hour long evening of music is sure to offer something for all musical tastes and preferences! During this diverse evening of music, performed will be vocal jazz standards such as “I Can’t Give You Anything But Love,” and “That Old Black Magic,” funk charts, Motown favorites, Gospel adaptations such as, “Wade in the Water,” and newly popularized favorites such as “Sway.”
